JEC & Pharmaceutical Companies

The JEC seeks to develop good working
relationships with pharmaceutical companies interested in the
field of epilepsy. It recognises that people with epilepsy will
be the beneficiaries of new anti-epileptic medications so the
JEC has a duty to represent their interests in an independent
and impartial manner. There is no promotion of one
anti-epileptic drug over another by the JEC. Neither is it the
JEC's role to promote drug based therapies in preference to
alternative strategies. The JEC believes that in an ideal world
everyone with epilepsy should have access to all strategies
that may help to improve seizure control.
The JEC does not have independent sources
of funding over and above its membership subscriptions, so it
actively encourages pharmaceutical companies to become
corporate supporters of the JEC through the payment of an
annual donation.
The JEC reserves the right to comment
publicly when anyone, including any pharmaceutical company, is
not acting in the best interest of people with epilepsy.
However it would only do this after consultation with the
individual or organisation in question.
JEC recognizes that many of its members
have active and mutually beneficial relationships with
pharmaceutical companies, and is fully supportive of this. Like
its member organizations, the JEC would not compromise its
independence by accepting financial support from any individual
or organisation which it believes is not acting in the best
interests of people with epilepsy.
